Turnips, Barkant Forage - 25 lb
Barkant is a very vigorous diploid turnip variety with a purple tankard root type. The variety has a very good leaf and root yield with high sugar and dry-matter content. Ideally suited for grazing with sheep and cattle, it is common to obtain 4-6 tons of dry-matter per acre of this high-energy feed. Barkant is able to provide multiple harvest with the correct grazing management. Forages of the Brassica family are very useful for extending the grazing season when other forages are less productive. Brassicas can provide higher crude protein and digestibility at half the cost of hay or conserved forages. Brassicas have an extremely high yield potential when grown on high fertility soils and carefully managed. Brassicas can produce as much as 40 tones (wet) per acre. Cold, drought and heat tolerant, these crops commonly provide valuable feed when other crops are less productive.
